1965 Fender Jazzmaster

Pre-CBS classic sunburst Jazzmaster with an ‘L’ serial number. Offset contoured body. The Jazzmaster was launched in 1959 and was originally intended as Fender’s upmarket guitars marketed to compete with Gibson’s range. It didn’t. However, it became the go-to guitar for the west coast surf bands of the 60s. It is now finding renewed favour as the cool guitar for indie bands (along with the shorter-scale ‘sister’ Jaguars) – Johnny Marr anyone. Robert Smith of The Cure has also been long-associated with Jazzmasters. Rapidly increasing prices means that clean, original pre-CBS Jazzmasters are becoming hard to source.
